Elaine H. Hochstein, 84 of Hartington, died Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, March 24 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating. Burial will be at the St. Michael’s cemetery in Hartington. Visitation will be on Friday, March 23 at the church, from 5-8 p.m. with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday one hour prior to services at church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.
Elaine Helen Mary was born Feb. 23, 1934 to Florenz and Veronica (Lammers) Burbach. She graduated from Holy Trinity High School in May of 1952. Elaine married Donald Hochstein on June 2, 1953 at St. James. She and Don lived in Laurel from 1954-1960 before returning to the home farm northwest of Wynot. Elaine sold Avon beauty products for 35 years. As a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Wynot, Elaine was an active member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society, arranged the altar flowers, and taught second grade religion for many years. They retired in Hartington in November of 1992. Elaine was a member of the Holy Trinity Guild, Catholic Daughters of America, Christian Mothers, Ministry of Praise and Perpetual Adoration. She moved to Park View Haven in Coleridge in January of 2010.
Survivors include her husband Don, of Coleridge; 14 children — Jane and Richard Mehaffey of North Bend; Ann and Lee Shepherd of Rapid City, S.D.; Susan and Terry Hupp of Spearfish, S.D.; Dale and Laura of Wayne; Kirk and Barb of Wayne; Joyce and Roger Paseka of Prague; Nancy and Doug Vrbka of Brainard; Brenda and Doug Hummel of Omaha; Neal and Sharlee of Wynot; Bette and Keith Becker of Hartington; Nick of Wayne; Karl and Carroll of Ankeny, Iowa; Glen and Pam of Seward; and Greg and Stephanie of LaVista; 48 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis and Bill Huinker of Postville, Iowa; brothers Gary and Cecilia Burbach of Marion, Iowa; Alan Burbach of St. Peters, Mo.; Francis and Colleen Burbach of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and sisters-in-law, Patty Burbach of Parkston, S.D.; Mary Burbach of Marion, Iowa and Sally Hochstein of Wayne.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Russ Michael; granddaughter, Megan Shepherd; brothers James and Kenny Burbach, sister and brother-in-law Alice & Clovis Weinandt, and sister-in-law, Pam Burbach.
Pallbearers will be her seven sons - Dale, Kirk, Neal, Nick, Karl, Glen, and Greg Hochstein.
