Duane D. Mitchell, 61, of Fremont, formerly of Allen, died Friday, June 16, 2017 at Fremont Health.
Visitation with family will be Tuesday, June 20 from 5-7:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 21 at First Lutheran Church (3200 E. Military in Fremont). Private burial will be at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later decision.

Duane D. Mitchell was born June 21, 1955 in Wakefield to James ‘Bud’ and Kathryn (Belt) Mitchell. He was raised in Allen and graduated from Allen Consolidated Schools in 1973. He then went to Gateway Electrics Trade School and graduated in 1974. Duane began his long career with BNSF Railroad in October of 1974. He worked as a laborer, foreman and then machine operator. Duane was married on Nov. 1, 1975 to Jackie Bottorff. Duane and Jackie moved to Fremont from Allen in July of 1997 and Duane retired from BNSF in July of 2015. Duane was a member of First Lutheran Church. He enjoyed coffee time, fishing, golfing, wood working and writing poetry.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie, of Fremont; children, Jamie (Chuck) Bojanski of Gardner, Kan., Jason (Theresa) Mitchell of Auburn, Wash. and Amanda (Jason) Fischer of Wakefield; grandchildren, Mitchell Fischer, Ava Bojanski, Kolton Fischer, Chase Bojanski, Lane Fischer, Natalie Mitchell and Isabel Mitchell; brothers, Gary (Carolyn) Mitchell of Tilden, Dennis (Kathy) Mitchell of Wayne, Jim (Janice) Mitchell of Wayne and Bob Mitchell of Wayne; mother-in-law, Leona Bottorff of Ponca; sister-in-law, Vickie (George) Tsiobanos of Sioux City, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Scott (Morie) Bottorff of Dakota City and Troy (Pam) Bottorff of Kingsley, Iowa; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by in death by his parents and father-in-law.
