Donald Landanger

    Donald Landanger, 87, of Winside, died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016 at Careage Campus of Care in Wayne.
    Services will be held Saturday, Aug. 27 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Winside. The Rev. Kyle Nelson will officiate. Visitation will be from 12 noon until service time at the church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Carroll.
    Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne.
    Donald Roy Landanger was born Aug. 27, 1928 at Randolph to Roy and Louise (Jorgensen) Landanger.   He attended country school near Carroll. Donald served as Private First Class in the United States Army from February of 1951 to February 1953. Donald married Nancy Fickle on Feb. 19, 1954 in Sioux City, Iowa. They lived near Altona, later moved to Carroll, and then Winside for the last 46 years.  Donald was a carpenter, farm hand, then a mechanic at the Winside Dehy. He was a member of the Carroll United Methodist Church and Winside American Legion. He enjoyed polka music, westerns, and spending time with his grandchildren.
    Survivors include his wife, Nancy; children, Mary (Carl Sr.) Paustian of Hoskins, Sally (Bill) Anderson of Norfolk, and Peggy Paustian  of  Norfolk;   daughter-in-law,  Dorothy (Dan) Cradick of  Gresham;  foster daughter,  Chris (Gary) Schaecher of  Norfolk; 18 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild;  sister, Lois (Ken) Graves of Glenwood, Iowa; brothers-in-law, James (Suzanne) Fickle of Washington, Richard (Jackie) Fickle of Lincoln, R.I., Charles “Bud” Fickle of Henderson, Ky.;   sisters-in-law, Kelly Landanger of Gretna,  Marcella Story of Kansas, Pat O’Connell of Idaho, and Virginia Fickle of Waterbury;  many nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Donald; brothers, Marlin Landanger, Robert (Pat) Landanger, and Gerald Landanger; son-in-law, Terry Kettler; brothers-in-law, Jack Fickle, Babe Fickle; sisters-in-law, Peggy Fickle and Dolly Noe.
    Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters, great- grandchildren great-great-granddaughter.
 Active pallbearers will be Don’s grandsons.
