Dean C. Salmon, 84, of Wakefield, NE, died Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Services will be held Saturday, July 30 at 10:30 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield; Pastor Barbara Hansen will be officiating. Visitation will be Friday, July 29 at Salem Lutheran Church from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Burial with military honors will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home of Wakefield is in charge of the arrangements.
Dean C. Salmon was born May 8, 1932 in Concord to Frederick and Helena (Mecke), being one of 15 children. He graduated from Concord High School in 1950. After graduating, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served 16 months from 1953 until 1954 with the 933rd Artillery Company in Incheon Korea. Upon returning, he married Phyllis Johnson at Concordia Lutheran Church in Concord on June 23, 1957 and the couple had two children.
Dean worked for Salmon Well Company from 1950 until 2006, which was founded by his father and uncle in 1914. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, the American Legion, and was a fireman from 1963 to 1986, then becoming an honorary fireman. Dean enjoyed fishing, woodworking, mowing the lawn, and attending morning and afternoon coffee. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Salmon of Wakefield; son, Bennett (Kathleen) Salmon of Wakefield; daughter, LeAnn Miner of Wakefield; sisters, Mae Schwarten of Wakefield and Mary Ann Garvin of Dixon; brother, Kenneth (Phyllis) Salmon of Wakefield; five grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Shad Miner; son-in-law, Vernie Miner; and siblings, Frederick W. Salmon, Allen Salmon, Ilene Andersen, Irene Manto, Helen Hattig, Leo Salmon, Harold Salmon, Elmer Salmon, Lucille Taylor, Caroline Gordon, and Leonard Salmon.
