David Lebsock, 72, of Ponca formerly of Wayne, died Monday, April 4, 2016 at Providence Medical Center in Wayne.
Memorial visitation will be held Thursday, April 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Ponca State Park Resource and Education Center near Ponca. A private service of interment will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Scribner on Saturday, April 9 at 1:30 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to the Lebsock family for later designation.
David Leroy Lebsock was born Feb. 12, 1944 in Lincoln, to LeRoy and Marie (Hasemann) Lebsock. He graduated from Benson High School in Omaha in 1962, attended U.N.L., and later Wayne State College. David married Carollyn Jones on Aug. 22, 1964 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Scribner. During their married life, the couple lived in Omaha, Neb.; Fort Collins, Colo.; and Wayne and Ponca, Neb.. For over 30 years, David was an independent insurance agent with the Northeast Nebraska Insurance Agency. While living in Ponca for the past 14 years, David was a member of the Ponca Area Community Club. He was a member of the Ponca State Park Expo Board, and he served as Mayor of Ponca for a number of years. At the time of his death he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Northeast Nebraska Public Power District. David was a member of the Wayne Masonic Lodge and the Wayne County Historical Society. He participated in Wayne Community Theater productions, and he was a member of the Wayne United Methodist Church choir. During his years in Fort Collins, David was a member of Elks Lodge, Jaycees, and Sertoma. He also coached Little League baseball.
David loved Colorado and the Rocky Mountains; he loved the Huskers; and he loved to fish. Most of all, David loved to spend time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Carollyn; son, Dennis (Lori) Lebsock of Grand Junction, Colo.; daughters, Sarah (Terry) Erickson of Windsor, Colo.; and Betsy (Todd) Studer of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Molly (Ron) Sears of Shelton; three Erickson children; Carollyn’s siblings, Betty (Darrel) Heier of Wayne; Donna Petersen of Olathe, Kan.; George (Cindy) Jones of Omaha; Phyllis (Jim) Spethman of Wayne; Ralph (Gail) Jones of Peoria, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Carollyn’s parents, S. Edwin and A. June Jones; and brother-in-law, Allen Jones.
