Betty Benscoter, 88, of Wayne, formerly of Newcastle, died Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the Wakefield Health Care Center in Wakefield.
Services will be held Thursday, April 21 at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Wayne. Chaplain Rosalind Woods will officiate. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Wayne with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in the Ponca Cemetery at Ponca.
Memorials may be directed to Providence Medical Center Hospice.
Betty Ruth Benscoter was born Feb. 28, 1928, at South Sioux City to Edwin and Dorothy (DeJong) Davis. She graduated from South Sioux City High School. Betty married Louis Benscoter on Dec. 24, 1946, in Jackson. The couple farmed in the Newcastle area for 37 years. After retiring from farming, they moved to Ponca and Betty later resided in South Sioux City and Wayne before moving to the Wakefield Health Care Center. She was very involved in the South Sioux City Senior Center where she held several offices for many years and was a member of the South Sioux City United Methodist Church. Betty was an avid seamstress. She donated many quilts for fund raisers and many hand made items to the care centers. Betty loved to travel and went on many trips with her granddaughter, Mandy.
Survivors include her children, Robert (Enid) Benscoter of Midway, Texas, Judith (Roger) Jensen of Laurel, Louis (Marilee) Benscoter of Wayne, James (Denise) Benscoter of Parkston, S.D. and Pamela (Craig) Elliott of Surprise, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grand-children; sister, Edna Martinson of South Sioux City; sisters-in-law, Sharon Davis of Port Aransas, Texas and Carol Bauernfeind of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louis; daughter-in-law, Gail Benscoter; brothers, Harry Davis; sisters, Winnifred Napp, Evelyn Jenkins, and Helen Jansen; four brothers-in-law; and three sisters-in-law.
Pallbearers will be Dustin Wickstrom, Jason Benscoter, Kevin Benscoter, Louis Benscoter Jr., Michael Benscoter, Anthony Benscoter and Jaret Olson.
Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne.
